Historical premiere of Dreamgirls in China and triumphant return to Japan
Dreamgirls The Broadway Musical is based on the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson. The musical follows the tumultuous story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called “The Dreams” who become music superstars. Set in the cutthroat, high stakes, and lucrative popular music business in the 1960s and 1970s, it portrays highly dramatic interactions between characters both on stage and off as they overcome a myriad of hurdles in pursuing their dreams.
This state-of-the-art, dazzling, multi-media, production features direction and choreography by Broadway veteran Robert Longbottom, with inspiration from Michael Bennet’s original staging. The stage design team is a highly decorated group of TONY Award winners and Broadway legends including: scenic design by Robin Wagner (also Original Broadway Scenic Designer); costume design by William Ivey Long; lighting design by Ken Billington; video/media design by Howard Werner; and sound design by Jeremy Oleksa.
